Frequently asked questions

How can I prepare for a holistic body therapy session?

For your first session, you will receive an initial intake form with your booking confirmation. Please fill it out before your appointment. This form helps us understand the reason for your visit and any relevant medical information, allowing us to create a personalised treatment plan tailored to your needs.

Wear thin, light clothing and avoid heavy meals or strenuous exercise immediately before your session. Additionally, drink plenty of water before and after your session to support hydration and the body’s natural healing and detoxification processes.

What can I expect during a treatment?

With Bowen therapy a treatment can either be performed through thin clothing or directly onto the skin while you lie comfortably on a treatment table. The practitioner will apply gentle, rolling movements over specific areas of your body to mobilise the fascia, followed by short breaks to allow time for your body to respond to the Bowen moves and initiate changes to the underlying structures.

If you are more comfortable sitting, treatments can be performed to suit your mobility and comfort levels. Treatments are always uniquely tailored for the individual and will target areas of concern with specialised remedial bodywork techniques for a relaxing experience.

What can I expect post-treatment?

To maximize the benefits of your treatment, it’s advisable to observe a few simple guidelines for the next week:

  • Drinking more water before and after your treatment will aid the natural detoxification effect and help to mitigate any uncomfortable natural healing processes.
  • Earth yourself by putting your bare feet on the grass.
  • Avoid very hot baths and showers.
  • Refrain from lifting heavy objects.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise, instead choose beneficial light activities such as walking and swimming.
  • Avoid having a massage after Bowen therapy for 7-10 days after treatment so the precise Bowen therapy moves are not overridden. As well as to allow sufficient time for the signals to make an impact and the body to integrate the changes initiated.

Receiving a treatment is typically a very relaxing experience that prompts the body to initiate very beneficial changes in musculoskeletal health and function over the following week. Some clients may experience various reactions which are part of the body’s natural healing process. These can range from increased energy levels, sleepiness or various sensations. Some clients report feeling fatigued or sore akin to being “run over by a bus” for a day or two, as the body adjusts and realigns itself.

Changes will continue to happen for 7-10 days after the treatment and it is important to be aware of the inherent mind-body connection. When tension, pain, dissociation or dis-ease in the body is addressed with body therapy, there may be associated emotions such as grief, anger, fear, guilt, shame, past trauma and memories that have been subconsciously imprinted into the body and may surface.

This is the intrinsic psychosomatic component whereby repressed emotions that may not entirely been expressed or processed from the past get stuck and manifest as tension, inflammation and dis-ease in the body. These e-motions (energy in motion) are mobilised with body therapy via the fascia, and will naturally rise into the conscious awareness to be felt in order to move this stagnant energy out of the body. So it is important to remember to allow yourself to observe, accept and fully feel your feelings with compassion during this time without suppressing or projecting them outside of yourself.

When this natural body-mind healing process is allowed, space is created in the body, mind and spirit and often felt as a lightheartedness of being, presence, clarity of mind, renewed energy and feelings of joyfulness, peace and love that return in place of the heaviness of repressed emotions that can manifest as dis-ease, pain, inflammation numbness, depression, anxiety etc.

Additionally journaling, meditation, prayer, yoga, walking barefoot in nature, forgiveness, gratitude practice and counseling/coaching for enhancing self-awareness and holistic health can greatly assist with this healing process.

How many sessions are recommended?

The number of sessions needed varies depending on the individual and their specific health concerns. People can experience significant improvement and resolution after just one session, while others may require multiple sessions for optimal results. Your practitioner will work with you to develop a personalised treatment plan based on your needs and goals.

If it is your first time experiencing Bowen therapy, 2 or 3 sessions is highly recommended to start with, with intervals of 1 week in between to experience the most transformative holistic benefit. In cases of acute conditions, treatments can be spaced closer together and for chronic conditions weekly appointments to start with then gradually extending the intervals as progress is quickly made.

It is also helpful to be mindful that healing is journey and is unique to each and every person, so there is not a one size to fit all approach. The treatments provided at Divine Nature can be that one step further forward on your path and there are other excellent therapeutic modalities to consider as stepping stones to improve health and wellbeing as well. Such as Naturopathy, Herbal & Homeopathic Medicine, Functional Nutrition, Massage, Acupuncture, Osteopathy, Chiropractic, Physiotherapy, Reflexology, Craniosacral, Kinesiology, Councelling, Yoga, Pilates, Cardio/Strengthening Exercise, Breathwork, Meditation and other types of physical and energetic healing modalities are very complementary on top of the diagnostics and treatment options offered via natural functional medicine and primary medical care practitioners.
